Sicilian cart panel - Achilles dragging Hercules - caretto Siciliano

Carved panel from a Sicilian cart (caretto Siciliano) showing Achilles dragging the body of Hector around Troy in the center with putti at either end. Thick wood is carved and painted. Colors are muted and antiqued looking. Under Hector's body is the inscription "trascina il corpo ettore." Age is uncertain. Certainly vintage, possibly antique.

SIZE 38" x 7.5" x 1.25"

CONDITION There is a break at the wrist of the arm holding the reins and a chip in the paint on the horse's rear hoof. Also, a smudge of white paint on the far right end.
