Bacchus Art Nouveau pewter overlay claret jug carafe - 1890s antique

Amazing antique amber glass claret jug wine decanter with beautifully decorated pewter overlay with a Bacchus theme of wine and celebration. Hinged lid, mermaid handle, Bacchus and Ariadne on either side, body decorated with leaves. Around neck it reads "In Vino Veritas" and "Vinus cautis Inocuum" which translates to: In Wine there is Truth and Beware of harmless wine.  

Signed faintly in script on bottom: HG. French or German. From the 1890s

SIZE. 14 1/2" tall (to top of lid) x 7" wide (including handle)

CONDITION Very Good. Patina on the pewter. No breaks or repairs.
