Vintage 1958 Viola Gråsten “Raff” fabric yardage – mid-century Swedish modern textile, heavy cotton 50"x52"
This fabulous heavyweight MCM yardage is a mid-century modern work of art. The fabric is in the "Raff" pattern by renowned Swedish/Finnish textile designer Viola Gråsten, created for the Swedish department store NK (Nordiska Kompaniet).
The selvedge is clearly marked:
“FAST COLOR – PRESHRUNK – COPYRIGHT MCMLVIII – PRELUDES INC” (1958).
Fabric feels like heavy cotton, perfect for framing as textile art, sewing retro-inspired projects, or adding to a collection of mid-century Scandinavian design.
One edge is overlocked/serged, the other is raw — likely an end-of-bolt piece.
Viola Gråsten’s bold, graphic patterns helped define Scandinavian modern style in the 1950s and 1960s. Authentic mid-century textiles like this are highly sought-after for their artistry, rarity, and timeless appeal.
SIZE: 50" wide x 52" long
CONDITION: Never washed. Some yellowing along selvedge edges and minor storage spotting on a folded edge (see photos). Overall excellent for its age.
This is a vintage item. It has been used and loved and it has a history. Please examine photos carefully and ask questions. We want you to love your find.
