Portfolio of 8 woodblock prints by Gihachiro Okuyama, a Japanese sosaku hanga artist. Prints are in individual paper mountings and mats and are identified in English writing on the mat.
Prints are in a manilla envelope identified as being from Matsushita Associates, Shibuya, Tokyo. Matsushita Associates was a well known gallery, selling mostly woodblock prints.
Collection was likely purchased in the 1970s, so are probably prints of Gihachiro Okuyama's work made in his workshop by his son Gijin Okuyama. They bear his mark, but not his signature.
Woodblock prints in set are:
Snow Country (2) , Ginza Street, Haruno Umi (Haruno Sea), Yangiri-no Watashi in Snow, Harvest Festival, Child in Snow, Mt. Migogi.
SIZE frame measures 10 3/8" x 7 1/2", prints are all smaller than that, most 9 1/4" x 4 3/4".
CONDITION Very good. Prints were stored in the envelope they were purchased in. Some anning on the edges of some of the paper frames.
