Vintage 1950s-60s Lawson Studio Custom Made Quilted Chintz Handbag - Country Fireplace Print - Fabric Hinged Frame
We don't know if this great bag was meant to be a handbag or to tote needlework projects, but in can do either in fabulous cottagecore style. Adorable bag is labeled "A Lawson Studio Product CUSTOM MADE" - suggesting this was individually crafted rather than mass produced. The bag is fashioned from polished chintz in a rich green country-kitchen print.
The fabric tells a story all its own with a print reminiscent of 50s printed tablecloths. On the front is a detailed country hearth scene featuring a red brick fireplace with a white mantel, surrounded by cozy domestic items like a wooden chair, a footstool, fireplace tools and a drum. The back includes images of a blanket chest with books, tea kettle, a coffee grinder, and various household objects. This fabric also covers the hinged metal frame opening, and is used on the fabric loop that closes over a green wooden button. The interior is lined with red taffeta and has 2 slip pockets.
The wide bottom could easily accommodate a project on knitting needles.

CONDITION Very good with minor wear consistent with age. One almost-tear on on one strap. Tear at top of one slip pocket.
