Antique Laconia Mills Biddeford Maine textile trademark stamps

Regular price $250.00

From New England's industrial past, two wood and metal textile trademark stamps. Larger reads "Laconia Mills Biddeford Maine." Smaller reads "Made by Laconia Co." Large bales of cotton (in Lowell, MA we're told) would be stamped with this to identify the maker. It's a seriously substantial slab of wood with thin copper bands applied to be the stamp design.

On back larger stamp: John Preston, Copper Stamp Maker, Lowell Mass. Smaller stamp is unmarked.

This textile trademark stamp came down in the family from the original mill owner and was finished with a light varnish and paint inside the raised letters.

SIZE larger one measures 11" x 10.25" x 2", smaller one measures 11.5" x 3.5" x 2"

CONDITION Very good. Very antique. Very unusual. Very cool. Please note the loose piece of copper in the upper right corner.

This is a vintage item. It has been used and loved and it has a history. Every attempt is made to describe it accurately, please examine photos carefully as we are unable to accept returns.
