Victorian soft soap stoneware crock - The Chiswick Soap Company - W. London

From sometime around the turn of the century, two tone pottery crock with incised markings "Registered - H - The Chiswick." Likely made to hold soft soap, which was a jellylike substance that foamed happily when water was added. The Chiswick Soap Company has works on Burlington Lane near Chiswick Square. The company is better known as the Chiswick Polish Co., makers of Cherry Blossom shoe polish as well as other shoe and household polishes.

SIZE 7" tall, 5" diameter.

CONDITION Very good. A large molding flaw on the reverse side, a chip on the outside and a chip on the inside rim.
