2 Alfred Meakin Fair Winds Salad Plates Brown Transferware George Washington - 1960s

Pair of vintage 1960s-1970s salad plates in the brown Fair Winds pattern by Alfred Meakin (Staffordshire, England). This classic maritime pattern features details taken from original copper engravings documenting the 19th-century Chinese export trade to America.

Center of plates has image of "George Washington at anchor," with border vignettes of "Inspecting the Ports of Canton," "U.S. Delaware Capturing Le Croyable," and "Wall Street Dock New York."  It's a warm reddish-brown transfer design on an antique white base.

Fully marked on the reverse with the George Washington at Anchor stamp. Marked as Permanent Colors, Dishwasher and Detergent Safe. That's how we know these plates are from the 1960s-70s even though they were made from the 1950s-70s.
