Antique Victorian Staffordshire Toby Jug Pitcher Standing Man Tricorn Hat

$105.00

Antique Victorian-era Staffordshire toby jug in the standing form, depicting a jolly gentleman in period dress - green frock coat, plum waistcoat, red bow, and maroon breeches - wearing a yellow tricorn hat, one corner forming the traditional pouring spout. One hand holds a small jug/tankard at his chest, while the other seems to be patting his round belly.

Bright overglaze enamels with fine, even crackle throughout the body and base, consistent with 19th-century Staffordshire production. The base is glazed overall with a mottled sponge-decorated treatment in brown and tan tones, with a bit of blue on the front of the base.

The only visible mark is a hand-painted "H" in iron-oxide brown, applied before the glaze, and most likely a decorator's initial rather than a factory backstamp.

SIZE  9 1/4" tall x 5 1/2" wide (including handle) x 4", approx 4 1/2" diameter base

CONDITION No breaks or repairs. Crazing throughout. 2 small little flea bites near base.
