Black Hawk Extra Cottons textile trademark stamp - antique cotton mills history
From New England's industrial textile past, wood and metal textile trademark stamp for "Black Hawk Extra Cottons." Large bales of cotton (in Lowell, MA we're told) would be stamped with this to identify the maker. It's a seriously substantial slab of wood with thin copper bands applied to be the stamp design.
No maker on the back.
This textile trademark stamp came down in the family from the original mill owner and was finished with a light varnish and paint inside the raised letters.
