Hazel Atlas cocktail mixer with jigger and mixing spoon - lyre and quill - 1950s barware
Vintage 1950s Hazel Atlas cocktail mixer with a jigger and mixing spoon. Printed with cocktail recipes and a lyre and quill motif. Originally had a lid for shaking, now it can be used for stirring or as a vase. Including a bonus cocktail spoon and double sided jigger.
The lyre and quill is a curious motif and being the curious sort, we went looking for some kind of folklore or literary reference. And we found one: The poet Statius from the first century AD uses the phrase to compare his hero Achilles to Apollo returning from the hunt and "exchanging his savage quivers for the lyre's quill." How a reference that obscure wound up on a piece of Hazel Atlas glass, we shall never know.
SIZE 8.5" tall
CONDITION Very good. The cocktail mixer has signs of use from the stirring of a spoon and washing.
