Dan-dee metal wastebasket - - No 2 - vintage 1910s
Vintage steel wastebasket from the early 1900s, the Dan-Dee No. 2 by Erie Art Metal Co. of Erie, PA. Patented Jan 5, 09. Modern design with arts and crafts style pierced sides. Rolled metal rim.
Originally black and perhaps copper finish, it was spray painted green, likely in the 1960s. It would be great to have it as original, but since someone already took after if with paint, you can feel officially free to paint it any color you want.
A cousin of this can is in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum.
Collector's Weekly has an article on American wastebaskets that features an advertisement for this can.
SIZE Base is 10" diameter, sides are 14.25"
CONDITION Good. It was spray painted. We are sad about that. But the style and form are both quite fine and it's ready for a loving back to it's arts and craft past.
This is a vintage item. It has been used and loved and it has a history. Please examine photos carefully and ask questions, as we are unable to accept returns or exchanges.
