H.A. Johnson & Co. Boston Mass preserves crock with lid - turn of the century stoneware
Stoneware crock with lid, metal and wood handle, marked "Home Made Preserves manufactured by H. A. Johnson & Co. Boston, Mass." with incised stamp "Patented Feb 11, 1896". Unglazed bottom. Crazed inside and outside in areas.
H. A. Johnson & Co. made and sold baker's supplies, jams and jellies. Their facility was located in downtown Boston at 222-224 State Street and 73-75 Commerce Street. Apparently the company continued to exist until 1975 when it was purchased by Sands, Taylor and Wood (the company that makes King Arthur flour).
Intrigued? We were. That's why we wrote a blog post about the company! Find it on the blog tab.
SIZE 6" tall, base is 5 7/8" diameter.
CONDITION Very good for it's age. So good it took my cynical old eye quite a white to decide if this was antique old or a reproduction.
