Handy Ironing and Sleeve Board with original packaging - vintage housekeeping - 1940s
Vintage Handy Board for all your ironing needs. Stores flat in the paperboard sleeve. Pops up, stays up with a metal bar in a groove and a wooden clip that swivels on a screw. Muslin covers on each side.
Use for ironing, but it's super cute as a display piece.
Several virtues are pointed out on the advertising, we shall address each one:
- Easy to hang on closet wall. Handy to use on all occasions. Not exactly sure how the hanging part happens. No obvious hanging apparatus. Would require some owner creativity.
- Strong enough to stand on. Can stand plenty of heavy ironing. How much pressure do you use when you iron? I'm thinking this may be overkill. Especially back when this was made, when you could pump iron by using an iron because they weighed one million pounds.
- Opens and closes in one motion. Easy to use -- handy to operate. Special lock device. A piece of wood that pivots on a screw is both special and easy to operate.
- The Handy Board for Traveling - Camps - Baby clothes - Apartments - and General Use. A perfect gift. The one thing about now as opposed to then that I really appreciate is that I pick and choose what I'm going to iron, and I assure you, I am not ironing anything when I'm camping. But then again, I'm not going camping. Ever. I would hover be really happy to get one of these as a gift because it's really cool.
SIZE 22" long x 7" wide x 2" tall in the package
CONDITION Sturdy and useable, but the muslin on each side is stained from previous use. For display, it is perfect. To iron on, the fabric and padding should be replaced.
