Unusual matching set of eight (8) authentic pieces of United States military history: vintage U.S. Navy galley cream and sauce ladles. Each heavy-duty piece features the official stamped "U.S.N." service marking on the handle. No date stamps or contract numbers.
These are specialized military serving utensils, distinct from standard dinner flatware. Engineered for use in shipboard mess halls and steam tables, the handles come off the uniform round bowls at an approximate 45-degree angle with a second bend about halfway up. This specialized design allowed Navy galley cooks and servers to easily scoop sauces or dressings while keeping their hands clean, and prevented the ladles from slipping completely into deep serving dishes. The handles feature a very simple, clean-lined thread outline design pattern on the front.
Manufacturer & Hallmark Details:
- 1 Ladle: Explicitly stamped "International Silver Co." on the reverse.
- 7 Ladles: Feature the classic vintage small Crown hallmark stamped right where the bowl meets the reverse handle (R. Wallace & Sons / Wallace Silversmiths contract).
- Design: All 8 pieces perfectly match in style, 6.5-inch size, and unique angled handle shape, as they were manufactured under identical U.S. Navy military contracts.
Measurements:
- Length: 6 1/2 inches
- Bowl Shape: Uniform round bowl (no side spouts)
CONDITION Good vintage military surplus condition. These were well-used. Shows surface wear and minor scuffs consistent with actual shipboard military kitchen use. One has an extra bend on the handle, presumably from use. Please see the detailed photos for exact close-ups.
