Vintage Alexander Backer ABCO Chalkware Praying Hands Faux Bronze Statue 11.5"

Vintage chalkware Praying Hands sculpture by New York sculptor Alexander Backer, dating to the 1950s–1960s. This piece bears the impressed "Alexander Backer" copyright mark on the front beneath the right hand (see photos). Finished in a rich faux-bronze patina, it is a three-dimensional interpretation of Albrecht Dürer's famous 1508 drawing, Praying Hands (Betende Hände).

SIZE Approx 8" x 11.5" x 5.5"

CONDITION Good vintage condition. The faux-bronze finish shows expected age-related wear, including some chips on the thumbs and around the base. There are areas of finish loss between the 2 hands and the wrist area from a metal rosary (not included) which the former owner displayed between the hands.
