Vintage 1970s Gray-Blue Shirtwaist Day Dress with Plaid Trim - Size Medium

$42.00

Tailored shirtwaist in soft gray-blue, with a sharp military-adjacent edge with a Nehru collar and contrasting blue-and-ivory plaid piping along the yoke, front and back. It's structured through the bodice, then relaxes into a gored skirt for easy movement.

Nice details abound. Short sleeves finish with inverted pleats and button detail at the hem. The patch pockets on the bodice each get their own button-and-pleat treatment. Matching inverted pleat centered on the back bodice. Side-seam pockets in the skirt, because pockets are awesome. The self-fabric tie belt is a nice bonus. Solid gray-blue on one side, flipping to the same plaid as the trim on the other, so you can style it either way.

One structural note: there's a casing at the waist, which suggests this originally had interior elastic that's since stopped being elastic. The dress fits well without it. We just wanted you to know the history if you notice the casing.

Fit
Vintage sizing runs its own way. For the truest sense of fit, compare these measurements to a similar garment you already own and love.

Fits like a modern Large (12/14) as-is, or cinches down to a modern Medium (8/10) using the included matching belt. Check the bust measurement carefully. Buttons will gap if your bust measures over 35".

  • Pit to pit: 18.5"
  • Shoulder to shoulder: 15"
  • Waist: 17.5" (runs larger than you'd expect, fit to the pit-to-pit measurement instead)
  • Shoulder to waist: 15"
  • Waist to hem: 24.5"

Condition
Very good. No signs of wear, no flaws noted.
