Vintage Schrafft's Miniature Chocolates Candy Box, Gold Foil, Bow, Mid Century Vintage
Couldn't load pickup availability
Vintage Schrafft’s one-pound Miniature Chocolates box in gold embossed foil with black scrollwork and an orange satin ribbon bow. Marked “W. F. Schrafft & Sons Corporation, Boston, 29, Mass.”, so it likely dates to circa 1943-1963 (postal zone, before ZIP codes). Back panel lists the assortment.
Use for decor, retro fit the box into a jewelry box, use it as a gift box. Vintage candy boxes have swagger than modern candy boxes can only imagine.
Schrafft's was founded in Boston in 1861. By the mid 20th century, the company ran a chain of restaurants, tea rooms, lounges and motor inns, mostly in the Northeast. The restaurants, inns and candy were gone by the early 1980s, but the Schrafft's memory lives on with the restored illuminated sign in Charlestown, MA.
SIZE 8.25" x 6" x 1.75"
CONDITION Empty box, no candy or other contents included, because if the candy WAS in there, it would be petrified after four decades. Light foil wear and scuffing, with corner bumping and edge wear on top and bottom. No foil peeling. Pencil writing on the back and inside the lid (reads “8 nutcrackers + six picks”). Small crease and indentations as well as some spotting/toning on the back panel. Ribbon is frayed at the edges.
