Five volumes from the original 20-book Woman Alive series, published by Aldus Books in London during the early 1970s. This set includes:
- Understanding Your Body (1972) — Frederic C. Appel
- The Sexual Side of Love (1972) — Maureen Green
- Guarding Your Family's Health (1973) — Mary Senechal
- Crafts for Fun and Profit (1973) — Eleanor Van Zandt
- Your Money's Worth (1973) — Susan Alan
Each volume has oodles of period photography, line drawings, and charts, equal parts practical guide and cultural snapshot. They read like a time capsule of how women's roles, bodies, homes and finances were framed in the early 70s. You'll find them earnest, occasionally quaint and sometimes surprisingly plain spoken.
The Woman Alive series was originally sold on a subscription basis via mail order. Sitting on your shelf, they're a real conversation starter. The women's liberation movement was strong when these were published, coming out of the turbulent 60s.
