Yoyo patchwork pillows - set of two - handmade vintage pillow - 1930s
Two vintage handmade pillows made of tiny hand sewn yo-yos stitched together into a pillow cover, backed with a silky satiny peach solid fabric. Squares of scrap fabric mixed color yo-yos are framed with solid black yo-yos. Likely from the 1930s or 1940s, when this style of quilting was popular. The colors also seem to lean in that direction. And we know from the previous owner that they were likely made by his grandmother.
Pillows have yoyo panels on both front and back. Border beyond the peach pillow underneath is two layers of black yo-yos stitched together to serve as a trim. Think of all the time and effort. Cut the tiny circles, sew the edges to make the yo-yos, stitch the yo-yos together, make the solid color pillow, put the whole thing together. Hours of time at a labor of creative expression, love and art.
Sold as a pair only. They came from the same hand. They were made from the same scrap basket. They belong together. Really.
SIZE 20" x 20"
CONDITION Very good. There is one black mark approx 1.5" long on the peach pillow on one side that can only be seen if you are looking for it.
